The History of Virginia Home & Garden

OUR HISTORY
Jim Gencheff began his career as a vegetable grower in Virginia, South Australia. High quality tomatoes earned him recognition within the local community and interstate. For many years, Jim worked as a vegetable grower developing his knowledge and experience in horticulture.

Jim's sons, Chad and Marcus joined him in the family business in 1992 when the wholesale nursery was established, supplying vegetable seedlings to local growers. A market demand for salination control prompted an addition to business in the way of native trees, saltbush and Blue gum seedlings.

Since opening Virginia Home & Garden in 2002, Virginia Home & Garden has established itself as South Australia's largest retail garden centre.

TODAY
Virginia Home & Garden owes its success to the vision and passion of Jim Gencheff and his sons - these attributes are what drives our business and commitment to excellence in customer service. Over time, Virginia Home & Garden has established Adelaide's most extensive supply of greenlife, water features, pots and gardening accessories.

It is our ambition to provide accurate advice, charming displays and a range at competitive prices to offer customers an unrivalled shopping experience.

A desire to be Australia's leading garden centre has seen further expansion in recent years. Within our centre, we also have Stella's Home and Gifts, Stella's Kitchenware and our own Cafe. Doncho's Café Lounge is open 7 days a week for breakfast & lunch, or to grab a quick coffee during your shopping experience.
OUR VISION

Today we are rewarded by the success of the garden centre. Our commitment to range and quality continues to draw customers to our outer suburban location. Household gardens are an iconic part of the Australian life style and it is gratifying to observe the enthusiasm of our visitors. Assisting customers realise the joy of gardening, relaxing and time spent with family and friends in the household garden is equally rewarding.

With the implications of COVID-19, many South Australians are developing a greater interest in their gardens and outdoor living spaces. We wish to harness this opportunity to share our passion for gardening and hopefully instill this love of plants with future generations. It is our vision through further expansion to continue to create more employment opportunities, and grow as one of Australia's largest Garden Centres.
