How To Grow
Sow seeds 5mm (1/4in) deep. Cover lightly with fine soil, firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings appear in 14-28 days. Thin as necessary and plant out when large enough to handle.
Goji berries require hot weather to germinate so in temperate climates, December is the earliest to start sowing the seeds. Alternatively, you can use a HeatPad to better control the temperature.
To increase the chances of your Goji Berry seed germinating you can try the following:
- Soak the seeds in water that has a temperature of 21 – 26 C for one to two days. Adding some seaweed solution to the water will also help with germination.
- Combine sand with commercial potting mix or seed raising mix until it’s very fine and sow the seeds into this mix.
- The ideal soil pH should be between 7 and 8, although goji plants will grow in soil with a pH lower than that.
- Plant the seeds 60 mm to 120 mm deep indoors or under cover in pots or trays or punnets. If you live in a warmer area, plant them outdoors in partial sun.
- Spray lukewarm water on the soil.
- Keep spraying with a mist sprayer until seedlings with two leaves appear.
- Irrigate them with a sprinkler/watering can after that, if your seedlings are outside.
